My flight to Heathrow ,London

I landed in London on the night 18 Jan,2009 at approximately 9:30 pm local time.

My plight began as soon as I landed. Nothing new to this but there is always an aura of adventure and tension surrounding my journey to a new place. I was going through the immigration checks and customs when I suddenly realised that my handbag was missing!!

I panicked and tried to remember the places I went through after I landed. Much to my relief, I never stopped at a place in the airport and it was very much evident that I forgotten my bag in the flight.

I was running from pillar to post , requesting the custome officials to let me go and then the security. Finally I reached the Emirates counter , where I repeated my plight. Much to my relief , they contacted the flight officials and they said they have found something in the flight but it would take 20 minutes to get it back.

My second plight was that I did not have enough currency and I badly needed a Bureau de Exchange to get my Travellers Checks encashed. All the exchange counters were closed and the only one which was available was at the exit of the airport. I just had 50pounds in hand !!

My third plight began as soon as my first one was resolved. I was handed over my hand bag but much to my foolishness I did not check my bag properly and never realised that I had my mobile phone missing !!!!!

This I realised after I cleared all the security and customs. When I realised my stupidity, I thought of going back to the Emirates counter and checking for my mobile but this is London. The security stopped me and said I cannot retrace my path again back inside the airport . I had to contact the emergency counter and then call the emirates officials. I realised that it was already 11:30 pm and I have to reach my destination in time. I also had one of my colleagues waiting. I thought it best to give up my search for my phone and consoled myself that such things happen in everybody's life.

This was my first night in London and already I had gone through a lot of hassles but I do accept that I myself was to be blamed for all the trouble :))

Now what lies ahead, only time will tell
